DOK Leipzig, the largest German and second largest European documentary film festival, starts its 51st issue with an exciting programme and attractive offers in its individual sections. True to its tradition as the „Window to the World“ the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film is again presenting the best and latest animated and documentary films from more than 50 countries to its audience between October 27 and November 2, 2008.

Thousands of viewers from Leipzig, Germany and the rest of the world discover each year in 10 cinemas more than 300 extraordinary, fascinating and artistically outstanding films. Four competitions, exquisite special programmes, excellently compiled retrospectives, discussions, master classes, parties and prizes with a total value of € 58 300 will give the DOK Leipzig as a two-genre festival a unique status in the international film festival scene.

DOK FESTIVAL

Based on German films made during the recent decades about the subjects of flight, expulsion, migration, asylum and integration, the retrospective "Migration" scheduled for 2008 will afford a completely new insight into the history and life in Germany. An homage will honour Barbara and Winfried Junge who have written cineastic history with their long-term film series on the "Children of Golzow". New documentary films from Afghanistan, a focus on the hybrid gerne "Animadoc" and a special tongue-in-cheek programme on the subject of smoking, i.e. the time, when the world was still intact for smokers, are also planned.

DOK Leipzig offers its viewers the chance and time to form their own opinion on topical subjects and conflicts, to dive into other worlds, to lose themselves in stories, to explore new facets of fantasy and to hear in the talks with directors what’s going on in the world straight from the horse’s mouth. DOK INDUSTRY

In three years only, DOK Leipzig has developed into the central German meeting place for the documentary film sector and has gained strong international recognition. Thanks to the comprehensive range of films on offer, the number of international experts visiting the festival has doubled to more than 1 400 since 2004.

Also this year, DOK Industry offers the best new films, fresh ideas, international networking and inspiration for the future.
