INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL AMSTERDAM (IDFA) held in The Netherlands, seeks creative documentaries of any length completed Sept. 1, '06-Apr. 1, '07, and after Apr. 1, '07, both in and out of competition. Competitive categories: Joris Ivens Competition, for documentaries longer than 60 min.; Silver Wolf Competition, for documentaries 60 min. or less; and First Appearance, for first or second documentaries and student thesis projects. All works in competitive categories should be making their European, international or world premieres. Noncompetitive categories include Kids & Docs (works that "fit in with the experiences of children under age 17," and are appropriate for children ages 8-12) and Reflecting Images (documentary films and videos that have not been previously screened in The Netherlands). Formats: 16mm and 35mm film; Beta SP video (PAL); digital Beta (PAL). Preview on VHS (NTSC or PAL). Cash (2,500-12,500 Euros) and noncash prizes. Festival coincides with Docs for Sale Int'l Market, which accepts documentary works (produced after Sept. 1, '06) in English or with English subtitles until Oct. 1. No entry fees.
In order to submit a film, you need a MyIDFA account. This will allow you to submit films and projects to IDFA as well as to the Docs for Sale and FORUM markets. You can register for a MyIDFA account at www.idfa.nl.
