OceanPlanet Film Festival
OceanPlanet Film Festival

January 25 – 27, 2008 sets the date for Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration’s 2nd Annual OceanPlanet Film Festival! We are hosting this one-of-a-kind event in celebration of our mission, to inspire people everywhere to care about and protect our oceans by exploring and sharing their biological, ecological, and cultural treasures. Experiences and inspirations will come alive as we tap into the creative side of the rich marine culture and history of our region. The weekend film festival will showcase student, amateur, and curated films featuring aquatic, conservation, and natural history themes. This film festival will allow young, upcoming filmmakers to showcase their work in a professional, juried competition. In addition, the festival will serve as a boost to local commerce and regional tourism. We respectfully request your participation for this upcoming festival. The Event: The OceanPlanet Film Festival will be a three-day presentation of juried and curated films featuring a theme surrounding the marine environment, aquatic animals, and/or conservation. It will premiere January 25, 2008, at Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration with film presentations occurring on site, and throughout the Mystic area. An open call for films, scheduled for February 2007, will invite amateur and student filmmakers to participate in the competition portion of our festival. From those submitted and reviewed by a jury of professionals in the film industry, 12 films will be presented during the festival. Goals: The primary goal of the OceanPlanet Film Festival is to promote ocean awareness and conservation, linking films with our mission, our exhibits, and our programs. Broader reaching goals include the formation of partnerships, public education, and, of course, entertainment. We will involve area businesses and organizations as sponsors of prizes for the award-winning student and amateur participant films.
