Verzio 4 International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival
Verzio 4 International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival

Verzio International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival is committed to bringing to the broad public quality creative documentaries with civic commitment. Verzio seeks to promote the ideals of open society, democracy, rule-of-law, tolerance, and political and cultural pluralism within a global context, as well as expose cases of abuse and human rights violations throughout the world by creating an environment where human rights are respected and in which ideas are examined creatively and critically. The festival aims to inspire the use of documentaries as an invaluable teaching tool. In the spirit of education, Verzio also hosts debates regarding the vast challenges that face humanity.

The festival grows yearly. This year the Main Program will screen 40-50 internationaldocumentary films at venues throughout Budapest.

Verzio is a non-profit film festival established in 2001 and organized by the Open Society Archives at Central European University and the Hungarian Helsinki Committee. The aim of Verzio is to use the powerful medium of film to promote mutual understanding between people and cultures, to highlight human rights issues -- especially for the young -- and to create greater global awareness in the public through documentaries that go beyond the usual media coverage of current social and political affairs.

In the Main Program 40-50 international documentary films will be presented from all over the world. Film screenings will be accompanied by debates with guests and specialists in the given theme. Hungarian Documentary Program with 5-8 films will be part of the Main Program. Special morning screenings followed by discussions will be organized for secondary schools in the framework of the Student Program. A workshop "Alternative Images: Documentary as Counter-Culture" (in cooperation with CEU CRC center) and a photo exhibition "Chachipe / Reality" of the works from the Roma Decade photo contest will be held in Galeria Centralis, Budapest.
